Pilates is recommended by NHS

So not all of us can get to a Pilates class every week or even fit in anywhere near the recommended weekly amount of exercise. That's why services like mine exist.

On www.nhs.uk the recommendations are that adults aged 19 to 64 should aim to be physically active every day. We should do strengthening exercises at least twice a week and 150 minutes of moderate intensity exercise or 75 of vigorous intensity exercise per week.

Pilates is listed in the ideas for strengthening your muscles. Yeay! It then links through to a great summary of what Pilates is, what it can do and why you should do it. Double yeay!

The website states that Pilates helps to reduce back pain, improve posture, improve balance and joint mobility. Pilates can also help you to lose weight and add definition and tone to your body.

Why should we follow this recommendation?

We could lower our rate of mortality, coronary heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, type 2 diabetes... and depression. We would be less likely to have a vertebral or hip fracture. We'd also stand a chance at achieving weight maintenance and have a healthier body mass and composition.

So if you've been thinking about starting or continuing your Pilates journey, don't wait til 2020... change doesn't come to those who wait.
